V. Pastor’s Report
Pastor Alsop said that tomorrow we will be holding our final Wednesday evening worship services for Lent. This Sunday will be Palm Sunday. Next week we will celebrate Maundy Thursday on March 28th and Good Friday on March 29th. Easter Sunday is March 31st and we will have worship services at 7:00, 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. Brunch will be served on Easter from 8:00 until 11:00 a.m. Our bell choir plans to process in while playing the bells on Easter Sunday.
The man that Grace Lutheran Church in Lancaster called to be their new Senior Pastor has declined the call. We continue to pray for God’s blessings on the people of Grace as they seek His will and accept His timing.
Our Fellowship Ministry has planned a trip to the Prime Desert Woodland Preserve in Lancaster for Saturday, April 6th. We will go to Vince’s Pasta and Pizza at 11:30 a.m. and be at the Preserve by 1:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity to meet more people in our congregation and everyone is encouraged to join us.
Our Men’s Bible study and Fellowship event will be held on Saturday, April 13th. We will continue our study of the Book of Job. All men are invited to attend.
Our Youth Ministry will be holding a Yard Sale on Saturday, April 20th. If you have something that you no longer need that could be sold to raise money for our trip to Hume Lake Christian Camps please consider donating it.
VI. Ministry Reports
The Church Council considered written reports by the Preschool, the Ministry of Elders, the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and our Spirit Force group.
The Church Council was given a copy of our Preschool’s 2013 budget. The Assistant Director of our Preschool, Sarah Baumgarten said that our Preschool’s enrollment is now up to 43 and there is a waiting list for our baby room. Our toddler room for children from 18 to 36 months is now open. The tuition from our new students will cover the cost of hiring new part time employees for our toddler room.
There were no requests from the ministries to the Church Council.
VII. Unfinished Business
A. Andy Wolf reported that John Pound has been working long hours and has not yet ordered the lights for the back row in our Sanctuary. Ike Winchell said that he spoke to John Pound also about the condition of our electrical lines and they seem to be deteriorating in the oldest part of the building, which is the chancel area. We may need to reroute electricity from another panel and abandon the lines that run underground. We are also looking at our options for how to get electricity to an overhead projector. Ike talked to Pat Young and he will give us an estimate for a projector that is wired to the sound room. We hope all this work can be done in June.
B. Our Vision Committee has now held two meetings. They have chosen Tom Horn and Fred Motter to be the co-chairs of this committee. They are putting together questions and plan to conduct interviews of congregation members. The next meeting of our Vision Committee will be on Monday, March 25th at 7:00 p.m. All members of our congregation are also welcome to attend this meeting.
C. Bob Lyche said that Dan Mills is in the process of making a coat hanger for our Narthex. It should be done soon.
D. The locksmith has now completed his work on the doors leading out of our Fellowship Hall. All the doors open easily now.
VIII. New Business
A. Edith Meyer asked if the items that are in our lost and found box could be donated to the yard sale to raise money for our youth. It was agreed that we should put an announcement in our bulletin that this is going to be done and then, if no one claims the items, they can be donated.
B. Andy Wolf asked if we had any new information about our church organ. Curtis said our organist, Marcia Whitten, will contact a repairman to see how much it would cost to repair whatever is wrong. Curtis will talk to Marcia about this.
C. The Council members were given an updated Church Council Roster for 2013.
IX. Non-Agenda Items
